The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has announced continued progress on the Boduthakurufaanu Magu north side road development project. MTCC Managing Director, DCP (Retd.) Ahmed Saudhee, inspected the works at Segment 1 yesterday, where sheet piling and quay wall demolition are currently underway.
MTCC confirmed that these activities are moving forward on schedule, marking an important stage of the project. Once completed, the redevelopment is expected to greatly improve urban mobility in Malé by expanding key roadways and incorporating modern infrastructure.
The project aims to address chronic traffic congestion in the capital by creating wider, pedestrian-friendly streets. In addition, a dedicated stormwater drainage system is being installed to reduce flooding during heavy rainfall a persistent issue for Malé residents. According to MTCC, these features will provide safer, more resilient, and climate adaptive infrastructure for road users.
As one of the city’s largest infrastructure projects, the Boduthakurufaanu north side development plays a central role in the government’s broader efforts to modernize Malé’s transport system. By combining advanced drainage solutions with pedestrian-focused layouts, the project underscores a long term vision for sustainable and accessible urban planning.
MTCC noted that the works remain aligned with the project timeline and reaffirmed its commitment to completing the development as scheduled. Once finished, the upgraded Boduthakurufaanu Magu is expected to enhance connectivity, strengthen economic activity, and improve the everyday commute for Malé’s residents.
