President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has officially laid the foundation for a new Fitness and Recreation Center in Finey, advancing his administration’s nationwide mission to expand sports and wellness infrastructure across the Maldives.
The foundation ceremony, held during the President’s official tour of Haa Dhaalu Atoll, was attended by senior government and company officials, including Minister of Sports, Fitness and Recreation Abdullah Rafiu, MACL CEO and Managing Director Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed, and Finey Council President Adnan Abdullah.
The Finey center is part of a landmark agreement signed on August 18, 2025, between the Ministry of Sports, Fitness and Recreation and Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL). Under this pact, MACL will construct modern Fitness and Recreation Centers on 63 inhabited islands, ensuring equitable access to state-of-the-art sports facilities nationwide.
Beyond Finey, MACL has also been tasked with developing Multi-Sports Complexes in AA. Ukulhas and AA. Rasdhoo, supporting both community level sports and professional athletic development.
President Muizzu reaffirmed his commitment to completing Fitness and Recreation Centers on all inhabited islands by the end of 2026, emphasizing the initiative’s role in fostering healthier, more active communities and empowering Maldivian youth.
