The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has been awarded a major infrastructure contract to carry out land reclamation and shore protection works in HDh. Naivaadhoo. The project, valued at MVR 82.64 million, was officially signed during a ceremony held at Naivaadhoo School.
Under the agreement, MTCC will reclaim 7 hectares of land and construct a 619-meter rock boulder revetment along with a 45-meter groyne to protect the island’s coastline. The project is scheduled for completion within 300 days.

The initiative is part of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s development pledge to the island. During his visit to Naivaadhoo, the President emphasized that the reclaimed land will be used for critical infrastructure including a football stadium, a new health center, and housing. He also announced plans to address local needs such as a new ambulance, and to complete the island’s school hall.
MTCC’s Managing Director Adam Azim and the Ministry of Construction’s officials were present at the signing event. Azim reaffirmed MTCC’s commitment to completing the project on time and delivering long-term value to the community.
The project is expected to improve resilience against coastal erosion, expand habitable land, and support socio-economic development in the northern island.
