Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has officially laid the foundation for a state-of-the-art Fitness and Recreation Center in Hanimaadhoo, advancing the government’s nationwide vision to provide modern sports facilities across all inhabited islands.
The foundation ceremony was officiated by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu during his tour of Haa Dhaalu Atoll. He was joined by Minister of Sports, Fitness and Recreation Abdullah Rafiu, MACL CEO and Managing Director Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed, and Hanimaadhoo Council representative Abdul Sattar Hassan.
he Hanimaadhoo center is part of a landmark agreement signed on August 18, 2025, between the Ministry of Sports, Fitness and Recreation and MACL, under which 63 Fitness and Recreation Centers will be established across the Maldives. Beyond these centers, MACL has been tasked with developing multi-sports complexes in AA. Ukulhas and AA. Rasdhoo, further cementing the company’s role in advancing national sports infrastructure.
President Muizzu reiterated his commitment to ensuring that every inhabited island hosts a Fitness and Recreation Center by the end of 2026, highlighting the initiative’s importance in promoting youth empowerment, public health, and stronger community engagement.
