The government has completed asphalt paving on a major section of the northern side of Boduthakurufaanu Magu as part of an ongoing road expansion project aimed at easing traffic congestion and improving transport in Malé City.
According to the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), asphalt work from the Hulhumalé Ferry Terminal to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been completed. Work on the remaining stretch, from the Foreign Ministry to Izzuddin Jetty, is expected to be finished next week, with efforts underway to open the road in time for Independence Day.
The MVR 144 million project will widen the northern side of Boduthakurufaanu Magu to four lanes along an 830-metre stretch between the Hulhumalé Ferry Terminal and the Local Market. The project also includes landscaping with new trees, road markings, traffic signs, and other improvements to create a greener and more efficient roadway.
In addition, a fishermen’s park will be developed along the route, while part of the lagoon near the Bank of Maldives headquarters will be reclaimed to create additional motorcycle parking spaces for the public.
The road development project is funded through the state budget and forms part of the government’s efforts to improve Malé City’s transport infrastructure.
