Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has introduced water and electricity services for boats operating in the ‘A’ Zone of Malé North Harbour, with the new system officially launched on 7 July 2026.
Previously, boats in the ‘A’ Zone did not have access to these essential services, which were only available in the harbour’s ‘B’ and ‘C’ zones. The expansion follows the completion of the second phase of the Boduthakurufaanu Magu development project and the reopening of the North Harbour area.
According to MPL, the project was initiated in March this year following a directive from President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to extend water and electricity services to the ‘A’ Zone.
The newly established system can supply electricity to 48 vessels simultaneously and includes 16 water supply points for boats. MPL said the new facilities will provide greater convenience for boat operators and crew using Malé North Harbour.
The company also acknowledged the efforts of staff from Malé North Harbour and other relevant departments in completing the project, adding that the new service is expected to improve harbour operations and address long-standing challenges faced by vessels in the area.
