The Maldives Qualifications Authority has fined Avid College for issuing certificates to students who were not registered with the authority.
MQA said the action was taken following repeated violations by the college despite previous warnings.
According to the authority, a case involving certificates issued to unregistered Sri Lankan students was identified earlier this year. MQA said the college was advised and action was taken at the time, with details of the case also made public.
However, the authority said it later discovered that certificates continued to be issued to students who were not registered. Following advice from its Advisory Board, MQA imposed a fine on the college as a second enforcement measure.
MQA warned that issuing certificates in violation of its regulations could undermine confidence in Maldivian higher education institutions and raise concerns about the authenticity of qualifications awarded in the country.
The authority said the action was taken to protect the quality and credibility of higher education in the Maldives.
