The foundation stone has been laid for the Gan Mosque Complex to be built at Addu Gan International Airport.
The waqf-funded project is being carried out with the support of Damas Company Chairman Mohamed Solih. The foundation stone was laid by Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed and Mohamed Solih.
According to the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, the complex will accommodate up to 800 worshippers and include a multi-purpose hall and a library in addition to the prayer area.
The ministry said the facility will provide religious and social services for airport employees, travellers and visitors.
Speaking at the ceremony, Dr Shaheem thanked Mohamed Solih for his contribution and described the project as a positive example for younger generations.
Mohamed Solih has previously supported the development of religious infrastructure in Addu City, including the construction of a mosque in Hulhudhoo.
