Newly elected local council and WDC members have taken their oath for the fifth council term.
The oath taking ceremonies were held across several islands and cities, with the Local Government Authority coordinating the process with local councils. In Malé, the ceremony took place at the Social Centre Hall.
According to LGA, 676 councillors were sworn in today, while those unable to attend will take their oath later. The first official council meetings will also be held today to elect vice presidents and deputy mayors.
WDC members are also taking their oath, with vice presidents of the committees to be elected as part of the process. The new councils and WDCs will serve a five year term.
Officials said the decentralisation system aims to bring services closer to the public.
