Maldivian Passport, ID Services Launched in Sri Lanka

President Dr. Mohammed Muizzu has officially inaugurated Maldivian passport issuance and ID card printing services in Sri Lanka, marking a major step in expanding consular services abroad.

During the ceremony at the Maldivian High Commission, President Muizzu attended alongside First Lady Sajida Mohamed. They were received by Ambassador Masood Imad.

The launch makes Sri Lanka the second country, after Malaysia, to offer Maldivian passport and ID services overseas—aimed at easing access for Maldivians living and studying abroad.

At the event, passports were handed directly to Maldivian nationals residing in Sri Lanka. Officials highlighted that the initiative reflects ongoing efforts to modernize and decentralize identity services, both internationally and across all atolls in the Maldives.
