President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has said that the government has repaid USD 924 million in debt within 21 days.
The President said the payments included a USD 524 million Sukuk settlement on April 2 and a USD 400 million currency swap repayment to India on April 23.
He said the repayments were made without default, asset sales or new borrowing.
The government also cleared MVR 3.3 billion in domestic bills between November 2025 and April, with plans to settle a further MVR 260 million this month.
Officials said the efforts aim to strengthen the economy and ease financial pressures.
