The government has announced that the Malé taxi line will be free during its first week of operation.
The service has been introduced to address ongoing taxi shortages in the Greater Malé area. It will operate 24 hours a day using a fleet of 150 environmentally friendly electric vehicles.
The system includes vehicles of different sizes, including larger cars designed to carry more passengers. Authorities aim to improve availability and make transport more accessible for the public.
Transport Minister Mohamed Ameen has said the service will continue without disruption. He has also confirmed plans to expand the taxi line to Addu City within this year.
