Development of Project Ayla has advanced to the construction phase following completion of reclamation and planning.
Invest Maldives has said land reclamation and design works have now been completed, clearing the way for building and infrastructure works.
The reclamation, which began in April 2024, was completed by February 2025 using around six million cubic metres of sand. Coastal protection measures have also been finalised.
Authorities have secured all permits and investment agreements, with a master plan developed alongside international experts.The project will include residential villas, a resort, a marina and a hospitality school, along with an agriculture and fisheries zone.
Officials have said the township will rely on renewable energy and is targeted for completion by 2028.
