Singer Britney Spears has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence in California.
According to the California Highway Patrol, officers stopped Spears on Wednesday night after receiving reports of a car speeding and driving erratically.
Police pulled over a black BMW on the southbound side of US-101 near the Westlake Boulevard exit in Ventura County. Officers said Spears showed signs of impairment. She underwent field sobriety tests and was subsequently arrested.
Booking records indicate the stop occurred at around 9:30 p.m. Spears was released early Thursday morning. Authorities say the investigation is ongoing and chemical test results are still pending.
A representative for Spears described the incident as “unfortunate,” adding that the singer will comply with the law and seek support. Spears is scheduled to appear in court on May 4.
