Grade 1 enrolment for the 2026 academic year has crossed 4,700 students, with strong migration toward the Greater Malé Area, according to the Ministry of Education.
Education Ministry data, current as of 20 January 2026, shows 1,748 students enrolled in Grade 1 in the Greater Malé Area, while 3,042 students are enrolled across the atolls.
Student migration has remained high, with 1,530 students moving from the atolls to the Greater Malé Area. Of these, 753 relocated to Hulhumalé’, 694 to Malé’, and 83 to Vilimalé’.
Meanwhile, 836 students have migrated from Malé’ to Hulhumalé’, highlighting Hulhumalé’s growing role as an education hub.
