The Ministry of Housing and Urban Development said it postponed the process due to the weekend and the need to better inform the public. Applications will now open on May 18.

The programme will deliver 7,900 flats in total. Of these, 4,000 will go to Malé residents. The allocation also includes 100 flats for single parents with children under 18 and 100 for people with disabilities.

Youth will receive 250 flats. Another 100 flats are reserved for the judiciary. Police, MNDF, and correctional staff will receive 100 flats.

The government also unveiled a revised housing policy. Malé City residents will receive land from the Greater Malé Region and Rasmale’. Residents from other islands living in Malé City will receive land only from Rasmale’.

Each housing unit will be 1,250 square feet. The government said it revised the policy after public concerns and reaffirmed housing as a key priority.
