State Trading Organization (STO) has started the process to transfer all its pharmacies to the State Pharmaceutical and Medical Supplies Corporation.
STO currently runs 196 pharmacies across the Maldives. The transfer will also move 600 employees to the pharmaceutical company.
STO Media Official Yusuf Shah said the transfer of pharmacies in the Malé region will begin on the 20th of this month. All STO pharmacies nationwide will move to the company by February 15.
The State Pharmaceutical and Medical Supplies Corporation Limited was established on September 9, 2019. Its Managing Director Dr. Mohamed Waheed said the company will need three to six months to become fully operational.
The move aims to centralize and strengthen the country’s pharmaceutical services.
