The government has launched the Masveriya Portal, a new portal designed to help fishermen access bank financing digitally.
Transport and Civil Aviation Minister Mohamed Ameen launched the portal in Dhuvaafaru during a special ceremony to mark Fishermen’s Day. The platform allows registered fishermen to apply for Islamic financing online.
Bank of Maldives said fishermen listed in the national register of fishermen can use the portal to seek financing for housing, education, vessel repairs, fishing equipment, guesthouse investments, and other livelihood needs. Card services will be added soon.
BML said the portal strengthens support for fishermen. Since December 2024, the bank has credited fishermen’s payments within 48 hours. It also offers financing of up to MVR 300,000 without collateral, with flexible repayments linked to fishing income.
