Maldives Ports Limited has employed 40 persons with disabilities, marking a first for a state company in the Maldives.
The letters of appointment were handed over at a ceremony at the Queen’s Palace in Edinburgh. First Lady Sajida Mohamed presented the letters and highlighted the importance of supporting people with disabilities and special needs.
The new employees will work at Kulhudhuffushi Port, Hithadhoo Port, and Male’ Port. The initiative is part of the government’s efforts to create employment opportunities for persons with disabilities, fulfilling a pledge of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
MPL is the first state-owned company to recruit persons with disabilities under the Ministry of Social and Family Development. Officials said the move aims to promote inclusion and provide meaningful work for all citizens.
