Velana International Airport’s Terminal 1 has started serving Switzerland’s Edelweiss Air, marking the airline’s 25th anniversary of operations to the Maldives.
A special ceremony was held today at Terminal 1 to celebrate the launch. MACL CEO Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed and Edelweiss Air Station Manager Mahjoob Abdullah attended, along with senior MACL officials.
The airline’s check-in counters were officially opened. Gifts were presented to 205 departing passengers, while 271 arrivals on flight WK066 were welcomed with cultural performances.
Edelweiss Air is Switzerland’s third largest leisure and charter airline and first began flying to the Maldives on November 4, 2000.
With this addition, 22 airlines now operate from Terminal 1. MACL said the expansion strengthens its mission to provide top-quality services to all international carriers.
