The government has presented a MVR 54.9 billion budget for 2026, smaller than 2025, excluding Sukook and bond repayments.
Finance Minister Moosa Zameer presented a MVR 64.2 billion budget to the People’s Majlis, including MVR 9.3 billion for Sukook and bond repayments. Excluding these, the budget is MVR 54.9 billion, smaller than last year.
The government plans total expenditure of MVR 49.2 billion, with MVR 12.9 billion for debt repayment. Expected revenue and grants total MVR 40.2 billion (6.6% up from 2025). PSIP projects receive MVR 8.3 billion, focusing on transport, education, housing, health, and environment.
