Virgin Atlantic flights have officially started using the new Terminal 1 at Velana International Airport, marking another major expansion in international connectivity.
Virgin Atlantic launched services from Terminal 1 on October 25, 2025. MACL and industry representatives held a ceremony at VIA to celebrate the milestone. Ibrahim Thoha, Managing Director of MNETS, attended as chief guest.
Officials opened the airline’s check-in counters. They also presented gifts to 24 departing passengers. The first Virgin Atlantic flight to dock at Terminal 1, VS384, arrived with 258 passengers. Cultural activities welcomed the visitors to the Maldives.
Virgin Atlantic first launched flights to the Maldives on October 23, 2023. It is the second UK airline to move operations to Terminal 1, following British Airways yesterday.
Terminal 1 now serves 14 international airlines. MACL aims to deliver high-quality and seamless airport services as passenger traffic continues to grow.
