MTCC has officially taken over the Sh. Goidhoo Harbor Development Project today, marking a major step to improve transport and trade facilities on the island.
State Minister for Housing and Infrastructure Hassan Rasheed signed on behalf of the Ministry, while MTCC Managing Director Ahmed Saudhee signed for the company.
Goidhoo, home to about 796 residents, depends on fishing and farming. The harbor serves locals and travelers from nearby atolls but has long faced congestion and safety issues.
The MVR 68.39 million project includes dredging 39,099 cubic meters, constructing a 238-meter quay wall, a 374 meter breakwater, a 27 meter jetty, and paving 2,235 square meters. MTCC will complete the work within 450 days.
Once finished, the new harbor will offer safer docking, better cargo handling, and refueling facilities.
