All members of the People’s Majlis have now submitted their financial statements, including the five members who missed the initial August 31 deadline.
Under parliamentary regulations, members were required to file their statements by the end of last month. At the deadline, 88 out of 93 members had submitted, and notices were sent to the remaining five.
The members who submitted after the deadline are:
-
Ismail Nizar, Member for Feydhoo North constituency
-
Ahmed Zameer, Member for Machangolhi Central constituency
-
Mustafa Ibrahim, Member for Maafannu West constituency
-
Mohamed Shaheen, Member for Kendhoo constituency
-
Mohamed Nazim, Member for Maafannu North constituency
The financial statements of all members of the 20th Majlis have now been published on the Majlis website.
The regulations were amended last year to require members to submit their first financial statement within three months of taking their oath of office.
The published records of the 20th Majlis reveal a wide range of financial standings among MPs, with some members carrying large loans and credit card debts, while others reported no money in their accounts or no assets in their possession.
