Maldives Tourist Arrivals Surpass 1.5 Million

Tourist arrivals to the Maldives have exceeded 1.5 million so far this year.

According to statistics from the Ministry of Tourism, 1,520,699 tourists had arrived in the Maldives by yesterday.

This represents a 9.7 percent increase compared to the same period last year. During the same period last year, the Maldives received 1,386,554 tourists.

According to the statistics, an average of 6,000 tourists arrive in the Maldives daily.

The largest number of tourists to the Maldives continues to come from China. Russia ranks second, while the United Kingdom is in third place for tourist arrivals.

67 percent of tourists visiting the Maldives stayed at resorts. The next highest number of tourists stayed at guesthouses, accounting for 24 percent. 5 percent of tourists stayed at safari vessels, while hotels accommodated only 4 percent of visitors.

Last year marked the first time in the 52-year history of Maldivian tourism that two million tourists arrived within a single year. The government has set a target of attracting 2.3 million tourists this year.
