Preparations are underway to start RTL ferry service in five atolls

Preparations have begun to start RTL ferry service in five additional atolls.

The government has assigned MTCC to provide RTL services. Among the atolls where RTL service is planned to commence are M, F, Dh, Th, and L atolls, and it should be noted that RTL service is currently operating in 10 atolls across the Maldives. The Transport Ministry has stated that the baseline survey will be conducted this month and next month, and the survey required for starting ferry service is scheduled to begin this month. The Ministry also mentioned that consultations have been held with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) regarding the commencement of the survey, and during that meeting, JICA shared information about the baseline survey they are planning to conduct.

It should be noted that this ferry service, which brought a major revolution to inter-atoll transportation, began in 2022. This project is being implemented in three phases across designated zones. Additionally, 800 million rufiyaa is being spent on this project.
