The Carrom Association of Maldives (CAM) has officially announced that the 7th Carrom World Cup will take place in Malé from December 2–6, 2025, bringing the global spotlight back to the Maldives after more than a decade.

The last time the country hosted this prestigious event was in 2014, when Sun Island Resort welcomed the world’s best carrom players. This year, the action moves to the heart of the capital at Barcelos Nasandhura, setting the stage for the largest Carrom World Cup ever held.

A World-Class Tournament

Originally, organizers planned to host the competition on an island. But with 200+ athletes from over 20 countries expected to participate, CAM decided that Malé would be the best fit for an event of this scale. The tournament will also feature over five former world champions, promising an intense level of competition.

The official logo was launched yesterday at a special ceremony graced by Sports Minister Abdulla Rafiu (Raappe), who highlighted the event’s importance for both sports and tourism.

“The Carrom World Cup will showcase the Maldives as a capable host of world-class competitions. It will also create opportunities for other sports to benefit from hosting events of this scale,” said Minister Rafiu. “Our goal is to make this one of the best Carrom World Cups in history.”

Boost for Maldivian Players & Sports Tourism

Hussain Raushaan, CAM’s General Secretary and Vice President of the International Carrom Federation (ICF), expressed gratitude to the government for its support in securing the tournament. He emphasized the opportunity this presents for Maldivian athletes.

“Hosting the World Cup will not only boost sports tourism in the Maldives but also give our players the chance to compete at home against the very best,” Raushaan said.

Maldives’ carrom teams are entering the tournament with strong momentum. At last year’s championship in California, both the men’s and women’s teams won bronze medals. This time, playing on home turf, they are determined to aim higher.

A Landmark Event for Maldives

The Carrom World Cup is expected to attract international attention, with the ICF executive committee also set to attend in Malé. For the Maldives, the event represents more than just a tournament — it’s a chance to cement its place on the global sports stage and inspire the next generation of athletes.

As the countdown begins, CAM and the government are working hand-in-hand to deliver a smooth, professional, and unforgettable World Cup, while the Maldivian players prepare to make history in front of their home crowd.
