A FIFA-standard football stadium and sports complex are to be built in Haa Dhaalu atoll Nolhivaranfaru, under agreements signed during President Mohamed Muizzu’s ongoing tour of the region.
At a meeting with island residents last night, the Ministry of Sports signed contracts with two companies to deliver the projects. The football stadium was awarded to RDC, while the sports complex will be developed by Maldives Airports Company Ltd (MACL).
President Muizzu said the facilities would mark a significant step in the development of sport in Maldives. “When these two things happen, it will actually open a huge door for achieving great successes in the development of sports in a very complete manner,” he told residents.
The president said the complex was a “huge project” that would take time to complete, but said that arrangements would be made in the meantime to ensure sporting activities continue. Work on an outdoor volleyball court in Nolhivaranfaru will begin soon, he added.
President Muizzu said the relevant ministries would closely monitor the swift implementation of the projects.
