
Maldives National Junior Swimming Team delivered a historic performance at the 10th World Aquatics Junior Swimming Championships 2025, breaking an unprecedented 10 national records, marking one of the nation’s most successful outings at a world-level tournament.
Among the standout performers, Meral Ayn Latheef renewed her own national records in the 400m Individual Medley and the 200m Individual Medley, clocking 02:42.46 in the latter.
Meanwhile, Looth Mohamed Hussain had a record-breaking championship, setting new national benchmarks in the 100m Breaststroke and the 50m Breaststroke, where he touched the wall at 31.81s.
Amna Thazkiyah Mirsad added to the National record tally with a fresh national record in the 50m Backstroke with a time of 32.77s, while Izyan Nazim made waves in the 200m Breaststroke, breaking the record with an impressive 02:45.21 finish.
Team events also saw groundbreaking achievements as the Maldives renewed long course records in the 4 × 200m Freestyle Relay (Thazkiyah, Meral, Laiba Hassan Manik, Ayaana Areef), the Women’s 4 × 100m Freestyle Relay (04:28.16), and the Women’s 4 × 100m Medley Relay (Malaika Lindah Imran, Sarah Mohamed, Meral and Thazkiyah).
This historic run not only highlights the progress of Maldivian swimming on the global stage but also sets a powerful foundation for the future of aquatic sports in the country.
