Plans for a new terminal at Dharavandhoo Airport has been launched to expand services and modernise the facility.
Transport Minister Mohamed Ameen said the project will boost economic activity in Baa Atoll and strengthen the transport network.
He noted that the current terminal is outdated and requires upgrading. The new facility will double capacity and improve passenger experience.
Authorities have said the development will support tourism in the atoll, which is recognised as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
Operational changes are also expected after the airport’s management is transferred to Island Aviation Services Limited.
