Construction of 300 housing units in Vilimalé has officially begun under the BML Affordable Housing Project.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has officiated the groundbreaking at a ceremony held on the island. RCC will carry out the project.
The project includes three 17-storey towers. Each will feature three-room apartments of 900 square feet.
The development is part of a wider plan to build over 3,000 housing units across Hulhumalé and Vilimalé. It will follow a lease-to-own model to support homeownership.
The government has said the project forms part of its Housing for All policy.
