Vehicles for the government’s planned taxi line have begun arriving in the Maldives.
The first shipment of 60 cars has been delivered to Malé. A further 90 cars are set to arrive on 29 March, bringing the total fleet to 150 vehicles.
The service is scheduled to launch on 2 April. It will operate through a dedicated mobile application.
Transport Minister Mohamed Ameen has said efforts are ongoing to meet the launch date. MTCC is recruiting and training drivers, while finalising the system and app.The service will operate 24 hours a day. MTCC aims to improve taxi availability and service quality.
The fleet will be fully environmentally friendly and will include three vehicle sizes. The cars are supplied by Changan Automobile.
