President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has issued a decree to relocate residents of Hdh. Hirimaradhoo to Hanimaadhoo, clearing the way for Hirimaradhoo to be designated an uninhabited island.
In a statement released yesterday, the President’s Office said the decree also sets out constituency arrangements ahead of the upcoming local council and women’s development committee elections scheduled for April 2021.
Under the decree, Hanimaadhoo will serve as the official constituency for Hirimaradhoo residents during the relocation process. Once resettlement and voter registration are completed, Hirimaradhoo will be formally declared uninhabited.
Hirimaradhoo has a population of approximately 590 people, with about 300 currently residing on the island.
