The United Kingdom Government has donated first aid equipment to the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) to bolster emergency response capabilities at Velana International Airport (VIA).
The equipment was officially handed over during a ceremony at VIA, where Acting British High Commissioner Mohamed Toafiq Wahab presented the donation to MACL’s Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed.
MACL highlighted that this contribution underscores the longstanding collaboration between the Maldives and the UK, especially in the area of aviation safety. The newly provided first aid resources are expected to enhance the airport’s preparedness for medical emergencies, offering greater protection for passengers, visitors, and airport staff alike.
As the busiest airport in the Maldives, Velana International Airport handles millions of travelers every year. MACL stressed that strengthening first aid and emergency response capabilities is a vital component of maintaining VIA’s reputation as a secure, efficient, and internationally compliant airport hub.
The UK has consistently supported the Maldives’ aviation sector through initiatives in staff training, operational safety, and infrastructure development. This latest donation further reinforces the airport’s emergency readiness and overall resilience.
