In celebration of International Youth Day 2025, over 40 students from Maldives Polytechnic visited Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) for an interactive tour under the community outreach initiative, Badhahi.
The visit offered students a rare glimpse into the operations of one of the nation’s busiest ports. Participants toured key areas including the Powerhouse, Mechanical and Engineering Department, Marine Engineering Department, and Workshop, observing firsthand the machinery, systems, and teamwork that drive the Maldives’ gateway to trade.
Alongside the field tour, MPL’s Learning and Development Department hosted a career guidance session at the Maldives Polytechnic Auditorium. Students explored potential career paths in Mechanical, Electrical, and Marine Engineering, as well as Civil Engineering, Architecture, and Project Management. Discussions highlighted how academic knowledge is applied in real-world settings and the importance of skills such as problem-solving, teamwork, adaptability, and technical precision.
Many of MPL’s apprenticeship program participants have previously come through Maldives Polytechnic, and the port authority continues to foster collaboration aimed at developing the skills and career readiness of young Maldivians.
The visit provided students with a unique opportunity to understand the maritime sector, preparing them for future roles as professionals in the Maldives’ growing industries.
