A Levels Mandatory?

Education Minister Dr. Ismail Shafeeu announced that A-Level will be established as the school completion grade by the end of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s five-year term.

Speaking at a ceremony held today to award top performers, the Minister said that the number of students studying A-Level needs to be increased.
Ismail stated that due to a pilot project launched last year by the government in 23 schools across the atolls to increase the number of students studying A-Level, the number of students who started studying A-Level in the Maldives has increased by 38 percent.

The Minister said that this project will also be launched in Malé schools for students who completed O-Level this year, and that there is space available in Malé schools for this purpose.

Still, a large number of students remain deprived of A-Level education. We are working to eliminate the culture of dropping out among as many students as possible, and I note that establishing A-Level as the school completion stage in the Maldives within these five years would be a very significant achievement for the country’s progress
– Minister of Education

To increase the number of students studying A-Level, this government has provided opportunities even to students who pass O-Level with three subjects or even one subject.
The Minister said that last year, the number of students who passed A-Level at a level sufficient to enter universities increased by 106 students compared to the previous year.
